Check-in: 3pm - Includes both the houses and the property, no early arrivals permitted.
Check-out: 11am - Read the house manual and follow all instructions in order to avoid extra charges.
Directions: You will lose reception on your way out and GPS can be spotty, we recommend following our written directions at the bottom of this page.
Step #1 - Head directly to your house upon arrival, there is no check-in office.

Step #2 - Unpack and settle into your house, there will be a manual on the counter.
Step #3 - Walk down to Doc's Bar and use the information board to sign up for activities and get an update on events.
Prior to arriving
Guest List: Provide us with a list of each guest you are expecting, first and last names required. If we don't receive this we won't know which waivers are from your group.
Online Waiver: Each guest on your list MUST sign a waiver PRIOR to arriving, click here.
All activities are included in your stay besides horseback riding and shooting, sign up at our SZ Check-in station upon arrival. Activities may be limited January through March due to weather, check with onsite staff upon arrival.
Horseback Riding: Horseback riding is available for guests who can ride independently ($60/person), and arena rides are available when kids need to be led around ($40/person). For more information regarding riding at the ranch, click here.
Shooting: We provide all supplies necessary and include a hayride out to our range ($50/person). For more information regarding our shooting range, click here.
Barn Rules: Kids must be accompanied by an adult at all times when around the barn and animals.
Oak BBQ: We will provide wood and get the fire started on Saturday nights (April through October). If you’d like a BBQ any other time please bring your own wood and/or charcoal in addition to food, tableware, and drinks.
Packing and Planning
Amenities: The nearest amenities are 45 minutes away, pack in everything you plan on needing.
Cooking: Santa Maria style BBQ, bring your own tableware for all outside dining. Both the Ranch House and Art House have a BBQ with propane provided, and the Cabin has a charcoal BBQ with briquettes not included. Each of the houses has a kitchen which is stocked with standard supplies. Large groups may want to consider bringing over-sized pots/pans/bowls, etc. When gathering more than 10 guests in one house for meals OR dining in the common area we suggest you bring disposable tableware.
What's Provided in the Houses: Linens, towels, standard kitchen supplies, fresh drinking water, blow dryer, iron and ironing board, liquid body soap, hand and dish soap, toilet paper, paper towels, trash bags, coffee beans/grinder, coffee maker, tea, salt/pepper, cooking oil, s'more sticks, seating around the fire pits, and other basics. If your house stock is running low on any of these items please let our onsite staff know.
What's Provided in Cowboy Village: Six twin beds and two full beds in each cottage, linens, a bath towel, one potty, two showers, s'more sticks, seating around the fire pit, and a nightly campfire.
What You Bring: Food, drinks, chocolate/marshmallows/crackers, toiletries, flashlights, sunscreen, hats, bikes/helmets, games, tennis shoes or boots, jeans, multiple layers of clothes for the evenings, and anything else that may personalize your country experience. If you plan to gather a large group in one house OR barbecue in the common area, please bring paper plates and plastic utensils (each house is stocked for 10 guests, dishes and utensils are not to be swapped between houses or used in the common area).
Firewood: Wood is provided for the outdoor campfire at Doc's Bar, if you are staying in either the Ranch House or the Art House and would like an indoor fire please bring your own wood. The Cabin has a pellet stove and pellets are provided.
Grocery Stores: There is a Costco in Gilroy, San Luis Obispo, and Bakersfield, or you can find a standard grocery store closer to the ranch in Hollister, King City, and Coalinga.
Dogs: We no longer permit dogs onsite, our policy is firm so please don't ask for an exception. Thanks for respecting our boundaries.
Campfires: The community campfire will begin every night at sunset, we have plenty of seating and firewood.
Community: The onsite experience is very communal, you will be sharing all common spaces with other ranch guests.
Wi-Fi: The Ranch House, Art House, and Cabin all have a strong wi-fi signal (2mbps). There is also wi-fi provided in the common area.
Cell Service: Although there is no cell coverage on the ranch we do have a micro-cell in the common area which works for Verizon and Sprint customers.
Landlines: Each house is equipped with an old-fashion phone that hooks into the wall. It's available for the convenience of our guests, please be considerate regarding the duration of long-distance calls.
Bags of Ice: We have a new ice maker and are now selling 20lb bags of ice.
Weather: Although we live in the city of Paicines the area is very large, take the weather report with a grain of salt.
Fun Fact: Our density ratio is ONE person per square mile. San Francisco has 17,000 people per square mile, San Jose has 5,000 people per square mile, Los Angeles has 8,000 people per square mile, and coming in at the top is East Hollywood at 31,000 people per square mile. Come and enjoy our open space!
Onsite Support: If anything is not working or a product needs to be restocked please notify onsite staff. Don't wait until the end of your stay to report a problem.
Sundays: Although we don't permit Sunday arrivals you are welcome to stay into the week if you are already onsite. Please keep in mind that all Bar SZ staff take Sunday afternoon/evenings off and no guest service are provided.
Smoking: Smoking is permitted outside of the houses in designated areas only, you may NOT walk around the ranch while smoking. Our designated areas are specifically located far from dry grass as well as the barn, riding arena, horses and other animals. Cigarette butts are a very serious matter, please do not leave a single one on the ground.
Projector: Our projector does not have an HDMI port, only RGB and an adaptor for MacBooks.
Medical Services: The nearest medical services are in Hollister which is a 45 minute drive from the ranch. Amenities include hospital, pharmacies, and drugstores. We have a basic first aid kit onsite but encourage guests to come prepared.

Cancellation Policy: Wedding deposits are non-refundable. Standard reservations may receive a 90% refund if cancellation occurs more than 45 days out, if within 45 days no refund will be offered. Our policy is firm.
We have a new list of local shops, farms, eateries, markets, country roads, wineries, and more for you to shop on your way to and from the ranch. If you want to leave early to beat the traffic there is plenty to stop and see on your way.

- The cleaning fee doesn't cover dirty dishes, rearranged furniture, cigarette butts, etc. Please leave the ranch and your house as you found it. Additional cleaning time will be billed at $50/hour.
- Put all kitchen and house accessories back in their original place. We will take a quick inventory after check-out and if items are missing you will be billed for the replacement charge.
- Help us conserve energy by turning off the AC and heat when you leave the house. We reserve the right to shut off the system if you leave it running while away from the house.
- Our nighttime temperature always drops, please open the house windows to conserve energy and give the AC a rest.
- We have limited underground water, please conserve.
Please do not...
- rearrange the furniture in the houses
- take dishes or furniture outside of the houses
- take blankets or any other linens outside (bring your own blankets if you'd like to sit on the ground or stay warm)
- jump on the beds, couches, or any other furniture
- try to fix anything that breaks

From Northern CA, Hwy 101
Hwy 101 S towards Gilroy. Hwy 25 S towards Hollister/East Pinnacles. Pass through Hollister. THIS IS YOUR LAST CHANCE FOR FOOD AND GAS AND CELL COVERAGE!! Pass through Tres Pinos. Continue on Hwy 25 towards the Pinnacles, about 30min. From the entrance to the Pinnacles continue on Hwy 25 another 3.2mi. Left turn onto San Benito Lateral (SZ Ranch sign). Continue on 1.6mi, staying left at the fork (follow ranch sign), the ranch is up on the right.
From Northern CA, I-5
I-5 south, exit 152. West on 152, south on 156, south on 25 towards Hollister/East Pinnacles. Pass through Hollister. THIS IS YOUR LAST CHANCE FOR FOOD AND GAS AND CELL COVERAGE!! Pass through Tres Pinos. Continue on Hwy 25 towards the Pinnacles, about 30min. From the entrance to the Pinnacles continue on Hwy 25 another 3.2mi. Left turn onto San Benito Lateral (SZ Ranch sign). From Southern CA, Hwy 101
Hwy 101 N towards King City. Exit 1st St, turn right. THIS IS YOUR LAST CHANCE FOR FOOD AND GAS AND CELL COVERAGE!! Turn right again on Bitterwater Rd. After 15.5 miles this will dead-end into Hwy 25 (Airline Hwy), turn left and you will be going north on Hwy 25. After 11.5 miles make a right turn at San Benito Lateral, with the windmill and a sign for Bar SZ Ranch. Continue on 1.6mi, stay left at the fork (follow the ranch sign), you will find us on the right side.
From Southern CA, I-5
I-5 N to W Jayne (hwy 33), left turn off the freeway, towards Coalinga. W Jayne becomes Hwy 33. Enter Coalinga and make a left turn on Hwy 198, towards King City/Hollister. THIS IS YOUR LAST CHANCE FOR FOOD AND GAS AND CELL COVERAGE!! Stay on 198 for about 50min. When you come out of the hills you will decend down a big grade. At the bottom you will make a right onto Hwy 25 towards Hollister/Pinnacles. Continue on Hwy 25 for about 50min. Make a right turn at San Benito Lateral, with the windmill and a sign for Bar SZ Ranch. Continue on 1.6mi, stay left at the fork (follow the ranch sign), you will find us on the right side.
